BaTiO3 (BT) ceramics are prepared by 2-step sintering, spark plasma sintering (SPS) and conventional sintering. In conventional sintering, the density and grain size of the ceramics increase with sintering temperature. In 2-step sintering, ceramics with more than 96% relative densities can be obtained by sintering at 1400 ˚C for 1 min in air atmosphere. Grain growth is suppressed in the ceramics prepared by 2-step sintering, compared with the conventional sintering. The average grain size of the BT ceramics obtained by 2-step sintered at 1300˚C for 1min. and subsequent annealed at 1150 ˚C for 15 h was 2.8 m. The ceramics exhibit a high relative dielectric constant exceeding 4000 at room temperature. The field-induced displacement of the BT ceramics by 2-step sintering is larger than that of the ceramics sintered conventionally.
