Abstract
For the preparation of transparent submicrometer alumina via pressureless sintering, uniform green compacts were formed by controlling the particle size distribution of alumina powders and gravitational sedimentation of slurries. The microstructure and transparent properties of sintered alumina ceramics were investigated. The submicrometer alumina with a total forward transmission of 78% were obtained by pressureless sintering in air at 1250 C for 4 h.
