Abstract
In this study, fine porous alumina for support substrates of zeolite membranes with different porosities fabricated by change of sintering temperature were examined. The thermal shock strength of porous alumina samples with fine pores (mean pore size < 700 nm, porosity 20-50 %) was estimated by the infrared radiation heating (IRH) method and the mechanical and thermal properties concerned to the thermal shock strength were also measured. The thermal shock strength estimated by IRH was good accordance with that calculated from the material properties. Therefore, the thermal shock strength of fine porous alumina for support substrates could be estimated by the material properties.
