The feasibility and safety of endoscopic ultrasound-guided tissue acquisition (EUS-TA) using a forward-viewing (FV) echoendoscope in cases complicated by gastrointestinal anastomotic stricture are poorly documented.
An 80-year-old man had previously undergone pharyngolaryngoesophagectomy with free jejunal reconstruction. He was suspected of having pancreatic cancer, based on imaging and laboratory findings. We performed EUS-TA using an FV echoendoscope, which offers superior maneuverability and visualization. The echoendoscope was advanced across the anastomotic stricture without difficulty and the procedure was completed safely, without adverse events. Histopathological examination of the obtained tissue confirmed pancreatic adenocarcinoma.
This case demonstrates that the FV echoendoscope is a safe and feasible option for EUS-TA in patients with postoperative anastomotic strictures.
