Accidental ingestion of sharp foreign bodies can cause serious gastrointestinal complications. We report a case who was removed accidentally ingested pushpin embedded in Japanese-style rice cake by esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). An 84-year-old woman accidentally ingested a pushpin together with her medications. Because of discomfort of throat, she swallowed two pieces of Japanese- style rice cake. After that, she visited our hospital Abdominal X-ray and computed tomography showed a pushpin like object in the stomach. Emergency EGD found only multiple Japanese-style rice cakes. We fragmented the Japanese-style rice cakes by a snare and removed the fragmented pieces by a grasper through an overtube. Finally, a pushpin was found and removed. This case illustrates importance of early endoscopic intervention for small sharp foreign body even if embedded in foods.
