Abstract
Anisakiasis infection in the colon is uncommon, and is reported to account for only 0.5% of all cases of anisakisasis in the gastrointestinal tract. We studied cases where colon anisakiasis was identified by colonoscopy in The Jikei University Hospital during the period from April 2007 to March 2011.
The mean age of case was 62.2 (56 to 69) years old, and all patients were male. The observed infection site was the right side of the colon─two cases at the cecum, one case at the ascending colon and two cases at the transverse colon─in this study. All cases were treated using colonoscopy. It was not complained of major symptoms in spite of taking the mackerels in all cases.
We searched for the key words “colon anisakiasis” in Japanese literature, and found 94 case study reports. About 70% of cases were aymptomatic.
