A 43-year-old woman presented to our hospital with sigmoid diverticulitis. She had lower abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation. Endoscopic findings revealed a large, sigmoid diverticulum with multiple intradiverticular polyps. Subtotal sigmoid colectomy was performed. Inflammatory and granulation polyps were identified on histological examination of the intradiverticular polyps.
Numerous studies have reported mucosal prolapse syndrome (MPS) -like inflammatory lesions, and a few reports of filiform polyps associated with diverticular disease are available ; however, to date, multiple intradiverticular polyps have not been reported. It is presumed that intradiverticular polyps result from large sized diverticulum, post-penetration adhesion, and repetitive diverticulitis.
