Abstract
In order to examine the effectiveness of interproximal brush in periodontal patients, three types of interproximal brushes, with differing bristle length (3mm, 5mm and 7mm), were prepared for this study.
Thirteen periodontal patients participated in this study, and were divided into three groups. Each group was instructed as to oral hygiene with a toothbrush. At the time when the level of O'Leary' s Plaque Control Record reached about 50%, the use of interproximal brush was introduced. Probing depth, attachment level, gingival index, bleeding on probing, and interproximal plaque scores were examined at baseline and 3 weeks after the inter proximal brushing instructions had been given.
Clinical parameters and plaque scores were significantly improved. At 1 week after and 2 weeks after, narrow interdental spaces were cleaner after bristle interproximal brush.
However, at 3 weeks after, all kinds of interprdximal brushes had effectively removed plaque in all interdental spaces.
