In the days of 1952, I experienced patients with venous disease for the first time and it was the situation that even the venous pathophysiology of lower limbs was unknown. Therefore I developed the method to show venous circulation for numerical values by plethysmography. I attended to the congress of the Union of Phlebology and held the first meeting of the Japanese Society of Phlebology. Since then the society has been prospering and is brisk in academic movements by member’s faithful efforts. I hope that the historical current give some impact on younger members and write my “phlebology”.
