A feasibility of decomposing photographic processing waste solutions by the Fenton's reaction or similar oxidation processes was investigated. Individual oxygen-demanding ingredients in the solution were decomposed to some extent on the measurement of COD values. However, when the actual waste solution or the simulated waste solution containing all ingredients was tested, the decomposition rate was worse than expected. An inhibiting effect of the Br- ion on the catalytic oxidation by H2O2 was proved to be the cause of the low decomposition rate.
