The recent finding of a remarkable hydrolysis of the peptide bond with a metal ion catalysis prompted us to examine the origin of the 13K da marker band on the SDS/PAGE patterns of the AgBr-adsorbed gelatin. The electrophoretic analysis showed that the 13 K da polypeptide (s) can be removed completely from the sample solution by repeated adsorption but not by single step. Therefore, the polypeptide should be an intrinsic component of the original gelatin and not newly formed product by an interaction of the gelatin with AgBr. It is also clear that the adsorption of the 13 K da polypeptide is selective but not quantitative under the experimental conditions.
