Abstract

Gelatin is a hopeful material with many useful features. In order to develop highly advanced materials, many workers have studied on graft polymerization of vinyl monomer onto gelatin under the presence of aqueous initiator.
In this paper, it was tried to esterify carboxylic groupes of aspartic and glutaric acid residues in a gelatin with allyl alcohol. The resulting protein (allylated gelatin) was proved to be esterified with allyl alcohol and to cause graft polymerization mediated by its allyl groupes in the protein with styrene monomer on polylactic acid film to result a great vareityof gelatin/synthetic polymer conjyugates by action of radical initiator in organic solvent.
