Detection of Type III Collagen-Derived α Chain in Lime-Processed Hide Gelatins

Abstract

On sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis in the presence of 2M urea, type III collagen-derived a chain was detected in lime-processed hide gelatins (DGF/ST66473, K14489) as well as in NaOH-processed hide collagen, though it was not detected in the case of the corresponding limeprocessed bone gelatins (DGF/ST66419, K14516). This is the first report that shows the presence of a type III collagen-derived component in lime-processed hide gelatins.
