1. By crossing 2540 flowers of F1 Triticum turgidum×Secale cereale (2n=21 and 2n=22) with the pollen of T. vulgare (2n=21), 24 triple hybrids were produced, the proportion of which to the pollinated flowers being 0.95.
2. The number of somatic chromosomes of triple hybrids varied from 39 to 44, but no individual with 43 chromosomes was found. Plants with 42 chromosomes were prevalent.
3. In producing these triple hybrids, the female gametes of F1 T. turgidum×S. cereale containing the somatic number of chromosomes, or a number near to it, were fertilized by the male gametes of T. vulgare.
4. The triple hybrids were lower in height than any of the F1 T. turgidum×S. cereale, T. turgidum and S. cereale.
5. One plant out of 9 individuals with 41 somatic chromosomes, contained neither pistil nor stamen.
