Of Salmonella B bacilli, those which contain V factor of bacterial antigen O have Forssman antigen. When these bacteria are cultivated on a synthesized media with anti-V factor serum added through generations a variant is produced which has lost both V factor and Forssman antigen in its S form. And in this case it is considered that anti-V factor serum did not react selectively to the variant which occurred spontaneously, but reacted specifically to V factor of the bacteria, causing the disappearance of V factor and Forssman antigen.
