A patient with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy underwent colonic tumor resection. In anesthetic management of patients with myocardial hypertrophy, it is highly important to prevent increased myocardial inotropy and inordinate afterload reduction. Intravenous anesthesia with propofol and fentanyl suppresses myocardial activity, and epidural anesthesia has both analgesic and vasodilating effects. The combination of these anesthetic methods proved to be very satisfactory in maintaining stable anesthetic course.
