A case suspected of diabetes mellitus characterized by rapid onset and absence of diabetes-related antibodies

Abstract

It has been recently noted that there is a rare subtype of type 1 diabetes mellitus that is free from auto-immune etiology and shows a rapid onset. This paper describes a case similar to that subtype of type 1 diabetes mellitus, showing the following; 1) negative for auto-antibodies related to diabetes mellitus, 2) rapid onset with ketoacidosis, 3) very high glucose level and normal HbAlc level at the onset, 4) exhaustion of insulin secretion with a urine C-peptide level less than 10μg/day at the onset, 5) increased exocrine pancreatic enzyme level in blood at onset.
