A Personalized Thai Consonant-only Input Method for Smartphones

Nowadays mobile phones equipped with a touch screen become popular among many groups of users because of their various features. Inputting text on these devices is mainly done through an on-screen keyboard which displays a set of characters to users, and allows them to select the characters they want to input. Because of the number of characters in Thai language, and the limited size of touch screens, a character is basically allocated a small area. It is difficult for users to accurately touch on their preferred characters. In this paper, we propose a technique to improve the accuracy of Thai text input by applying the concept of learning to rank to select a set of appropriate candidate words using users' touch points and statistical information related to each candidate word. This technique allows the input method to adapt itself based on the characteristics and preferences of users.
