Cost reduction using stochastic programming in supply chain management

Abstract

Production of a given product at a manufacturing site is usually planned on the basis of predicted demand for the product in question. However, actual demand is uncertain, and it is important to take this uncertainty into consideration during production planning. In this paper, we present a solution to problems for production planning in component plants that takes the uncertainty of demand into account, and a verification of this solution using real data.
