Abstract

In the past few years, smart speakers from various companies have gradually become popular around the world including Japan, and not only using the basic functions of smart speakers, but also using various services and online systems via a VUI (voice user interface) is now possible. However, since users' utterance data need to be sent and processed on the proprietary service of each VUI company, some people regard such kind of dependency is problematic. By using Mycroft, an open source VUI, it is possible to build an ecosystem where VUIs are available with various services and systems without sending users' utterance data to proprietary services. As a method to enable learning activities using a voice UI with Moodle, an open source Learning Management System, we developed a Mycroft skill for Moodle. The Mycroft skill that we developed enables taking quizzes on Moodle.
