Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to clarify how AI can be used to provide mental health care. The phenomenon of not seeking professional help for mental problems is called the service gap, in which stigma and self-esteem are cited as factors. In recent years, AI-based mental health care applications have been developed and are attracting attention. In this study, we examined the possibility of solving the service gap problem by using messages, especially through apps.In this study, we conducted a survey of university students to examine the difference in emotions between AI and human in text conversations through apps. The results showed that stigma and self-esteem were not related to motivation to use, but those who had used counseling had higher motivation to use when talking to AI.This experiment will help to close the service gap and provide useful suggestions for mental health care for college students.
