Recently, the number of users who utilize services based on large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT and Bard, has been rapidly increasing. However, its ethical and social problems have been pointed out in fields including education and creative activities. LLMs are part of the constant evolution of technologies such as transformers and machine learning. Nevertheless, their unique ethical and social challenges are difficult to analyze through the lens of traditional technological progress. In this study, we use recent advances in the philosophy of technology, particularly in “postphenomenology.” LLMs have the potential to realize the various intentional relations that humans and the world can have based on natural language, expanding the possibilities of human cognition and behavior. We will also pinpoint that the problem of hegemony concerning learning data can arise not only in natural language processing tasks such as dialogue and question-answering but in all technological functionalities.
