An Integrated Digital Platform Linking Aristotle's Texts and Ancient Commentaries

A Classical Reading Environment Powered by Large Language Models

Abstract

The reception of Aristotle is inextricably linked to a tradition of ancient Greek and Latin commentaries. For scholars in classical studies, reading Aristotle alongside these commentaries is essential. However, cross-referencing and synthesizing information from multiple, disparate sources remains highly challenging. This study introduces a digital platform that simultaneously integrates and displays Aristotle’s texts and their associated commentaries. Recent advances in LLMs have significantly improved the analysis of classical languages and enabled data integration. In this research, Aristotle’s text segments—identified by traditional numbering—are systematically linked to their corresponding commentaries via text IDs. The system is built upon three core components: (1) defining text segments as text IDs, (2) establishing robust links between texts and commentaries, and (3) providing a unified interface that manages and displays texts, commentaries, summaries, and translations using LLMs. This integrated platform not only streamlines the reading process but also significantly enhances research efficiency.
