In the case which require reduction to the mandibular fractures of the pediatric patients, the fixation after the reduction has been carried out with circumferential wiring to consider the mandibular growth and existence of the permanent tooth germ from before. Nowadays, internal fixation with metal miniplates and screws which had not been recommended for use for reasons described above before also have been done with a lot of advantages. However a number of reviewes of this method have reported that the rigid internal fixation has potential growth restriction in developing children.
Recently, authors have done rigid internal fixation with PLLA bioabsorbed miniplates and screws to the mandibular fracture in 1-year-old girl. This material has the potential to be used widely for the developing childen like her. Because these materials can use the advantages of the rigid internal fixation without the growth restriction.
