Abstract
With iron single crystals of various orientations the change in the Young's modulus due to magnetization was studied at room temperature. According to the present investigation, the decrease in S'aa from the value at the state of no magnetization to the magnetically saturated state is a linear function of 3(β22β2323β2121β21). Not only the amount of but also the behaviour of the variation in the modulus showed a conspicuous anisotropy. These striking features could he explained by the domain theory of ferromagnetism, by considering the two different processes, discontinuous and continuous rotations of magnetic moments of elementary domains, concerning the mechanism of the ΔE-effect
