Theoretical calculations made by various writers on the subsonic compressible flow past a circular cylinder in an infinite fluid show some disagreements with Taylor's electrolytic tank experiment. In the present paper, these disagreements proved to be due to the wall effects in the experiments, by means of the application of Tsien's method to the compressible flow past a circular cylinder between two parallel walls. But appropriate consideration of the deformation of the shape of cylinder was inevitable. Results of the calculation show that Tsien's method gives a good approximation-nearly equals to Imai's second approximation which contains the fourth power of the Mach number and was obtained following the successive method due to Janzen and Rayleigh. The wall effect on critical Mach number was also calculated in this paper
