For evaluating coastal environment with biodiversity in Tokyo Bay, an application of HSI (Habitat Suitability Index) to developing new index (Biodiversity-Index: BDI) was proposed and its applicability was considered. The BDI was designed to consider limiting factor of biodiversity with the relationship between the number of species and water or sediment quality. Using field observation data on March and June 2006 at Tokyo Bay, the BDI was determined. The results show 1) possibility of quantitative evaluation of biodiversity with the BDI model at tidal flats and seawall in Tokyo Bay and 2) different characteristics of limiting factor with organisms and season.
