A submarine canyon develops around the north end of the Shimizu coast, and offshore sand loss into the submarine canyon through the steep slope has occurred. The bathymetric survey data were analyzed, and the rate of offshore sand transport was evaluated to be 160 m3/m/yr on the 0.4-km-long coastline. The foreshore excavation was experimentally carried out to investigate the capability of sand recycling from the tip of the sand spit. The rate of refilling was found to be 35m3/day in the test area.
