Abstract
Early action is required to reduce environmental pollution and establish the sustainable society. And several measures: for changing the economic system, life-style and technologies, are necessary. This paper, especially, discusses a measure for making innovation of environmental technologies. In general, the research and development process of environmental technologies is black box to consumers and citizens. Therefore, it is important to analyze those social dynamics from a view point of sociology. This paper describes a case of automotive environmental technologies, using a model of engineers' groups and society, and M. Gibbons'1 approach. And analyzes the essential mechanism of technological innovation in electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles i) in Japan's 60's-70's and ii) in 90's-. Consequently, this paper shows the effective policy for the future innovation of environmental technologies.
