The effect of water table control upon beach process due to waves has been studied by means of Two-dimensional experiments. Beach profile variation and ground water level were measured under various conditions of incident waves and forced ground water drainage. Lowered pressure in the sand layer contributes to the stability of sand in a limited range near the shoreline. It however leads to marked erosion in its immediate offshoreward range at the same time In addition to the effects of increased uprush water percolation and reduced return flow in a swasfi zone, notable effect of sand compaction was observed.
