Joining of Plastic Sheets by Laser

Abstract

An experimental study on joining plastic sheets by laser was conducted. PMMA, PP and PE sheets were used as specimens to be joined. A pulsed YAG laser was used as the heat source to melt the materials concerned. It was found that pre–treatment of the surfaces to be joined and/or placement of beam–absorptive layer between the sheets can realize joining of the specimens.
