Abstract
In order to improve the service life of the artificial acetabular cup, it is important to develop the material and design, and to assess the mechanical behavior around the cup. In this study, electronic speckle interferometry(ESPI), which can capture speckle images over the entire visual field, was used to displacement analysis around two dimensional artificial acetabular cup models. In this report, the effect of the defect in bone cement near the cup–bone cement interface was examined. Finite element method (FEM) is also employed to investigate the mechanical behavior. It was shown that the experimental results were similar to those by the finite element model.
