Indoor Positioning System Using Bluetooth

Abstract

A local positioning system utilizing propagation loss of Bluetooth wireless technology is presented. Pseudo-distance between a stationary station located in room and a mobile unit carried by a person is derived from the propagation loss. Position of the person is calculated from pseudo-distance measurements on three different base stations. Attenuation by the human body which was the major error factor was compensated for by attaching a mobile unit on the front and the back of the human body. As the first report, propagation loss and positioning accuracy were evaluated by using our system.
