A Method to Generate Freeform Curves from Hand–Drawn Sketch

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to shorten the product design period. A method to detect the freeform curve from the hand–drawn sketch which is put into the computer via a scanner has been developed. By applying the newly developed image processing techniques to the digital image, the edges are detected from the sketch. The detected edges are converted to the Bezier Curves. A method of the curve shape modification using curvature distribution has been developed by introducing the least square method.
