Abstract
It is well known that main cutting force, feed force and thrust forces take place in turning operations. In there forces, thrust forces direct to the depth of cut and it induces the elastic deformations causing workpiece geometrical errors. From the viewpoint to realize micro shafts having high geometrical accuracy in turning operations, experimental analysis controlling thrust force have been carried out and the technique to turn a small brass shaft, which diameter is 0.05mm and length is 3.5mm, has been established in our laboratory so far. In this study, based on such experimental results, a new cutting tool edge forms which can easily control the thrust forces are investigated.
