Abstract
The workpiece of the hard and brittle materials is almost finished by grinding due to the high hardness of the workpiece materials. In grinding process, the curve surface of workpiece is generated by the arc nose of the grinding wheel. The size and accuracy of the nose radius of the grinding wheel is the most important factors to affect the accuracy of the ground surface. Thus, the precise truing technology is attracting many researchers attentions. In order to true the metal bonded abrasive wheel, electric discharge truing was usually used. However, the truing conditions are different due to the various bonding materials. In this paper, the electric discharge truing conditions of the cast iron bonded diamond wheel and an easy measurement of the nose radius were introduced. Finally, the ELID (Electrolytic In-process Dress) method was applied for grinding a spherical surface on the high hardness and low thermal expansion ceramics glass CLEARCERAM with the diameter of 300mm.
