Abstract

In this report, it is discussed that the unique XY linear stage is composed of the piezo driven inchworm mechanism. This inchworm mechanism includes two units with piezoelement and electro-permanent magnet and they are set cross at right angle each other so that it can provide the linear movement perpendicularly. For preventing such heat generation and keeping the cramping force without current, the permanent magnets are also implemented into the electromagnet. When the electromagnet becomes active, the magnetic force of the permanent magnet can be reduced to allow its sliding on the way. As a practical application, we apply this precise self-walking stage to artificial insemination system under the microscope. In addition, we are developing the PC controller to perform the automatic pipette positioning to the target bio cell. This report describes the design of the system, the principle of feedback and the experimental result on mouse egg.
