Abstract
In this research work, in order to form a micro V-shaped groove with precise shape accuracy and good surface finish, a machining method combining EDM and grinding with a same tool on a same machine is proposed. This machining method includes, for making a micro V-shaped groove, the first stage of EDM with a rotating V-shaped PCD electrode and the second stage of finish grinding on the formed V-shaped groove using the same rotating PCD electrode as a grinding wheel. It has been found that, when this method is applied to forming of a V-shaped groove on tungsten carbide, the poor surface property of the V-shaped groove after EDM is remarkably improved after the finish grinding, resulting in satisfied surface roughness and shape accuracy.
