Abstract
In a manufacturing system, the digital tools such as CAD and CAM are used and communication among them frequently occurs. However, interoperability among heterogeneous software systems and tools is generally not available. To solve this problem, a digital machining information (DMI) model to support a real-virtual machining system is proposed in this study. In this report, the data structure of the tool model which is included in DMI model is proposed. In the tool model, the connection between tool part (tool and tool holder) is specified. The connecting position of the tool and tool holder is also specified. As an application using the detailed DMI model, machining motion simulator which detects interference of machine tool, tool, workpiece and fixture is developed.
