Abstract
At present, the surface of exterior body panels of stainless steel railway vehicles has a feature. The feature is created by polishing stainless steel plates in advance of fabrication. When the surface of the exterior body panels is partially polished again, their feature changes. However, there is no method to distinguish such a change quantitatively. Therefore, the authors binarized the digital images and studied their binarization threshold in order to establish a quantitative evaluation method. As a result, the authors obtained a method whereby spatial changes of feature, which is one of the evaluation items for polishing for stainless steels, can be emphasized. This paper reports the method.
