Abstract
The stiffness at contacted interface has a large influence on the stiffness of machine tool supports. In this research, two methods are attempted to change the stiffness of the support by changing the contact stiffness. One is to tilt the interface and the other is to insert thin foils between the interfaces. The stiffness of the support was decreased by 50% with the interface tilted by 45 degrees. The stiffness of the support tended to increase with inserts of aluminum foil and tin foil.
