Abstract
Deposition of the Titanium carbide (TiC) layer on nickel-based diamond composite coatings by pulsed electrical discharge machining (EDM) using TiC powder electrodes were investigated. We have observed and analyzed the surface hieght, roughness and deposition rate of TiC layer on nickel coatings formed by electroplating as the first step towards elucidating the adhesion mechanism of TiC on nickel and optimazing discharge condition. Deposition rate of TiC on nickel coatings by electrode negative polarity was higher than that by electrode positive polarity. The deposition of TiC on nickel-based diamond composite coatings was possible by electrode negative polarity. Deposition rate of TiC on nickel-based diamond composite coatings was lower than that on nickel coatings
