Intermittent Monitoring of FDM Parts′ Surface Conditions During the Manufacturing Process: A Newly Designed Automated Test Platform

Abstract

Multi-material printing has been an important research field for the past years. Through the fabrication of multi-material parts, the capabilities and complexity of parts obtained through additive manufacturing increases yet again. However, improving the interface strength between different material is a challenge that needs to be overcome and several kinds of treatment can be used to investigate this matter. This paper presents the development of a test platform capable of performing surface treatments as well as part measurements concurrent to the print process, without human manipulation.
