Abstract

We had developed the technologies to identify and compensate geometric errors in 5-axis controlled machine tools. However, they may not be effective enough. It is caused by the motion error of the tilting axis. To solve this issue, we have developed a technology to identify 6-DoF error of the tilting axis using a datum sphere and a touch probe, and also developed a function to compensate the 6-DOF error of the axis. With these technologies, high motion accuracy has been achieved at various angles of two rotary axes.
