We had developed the technologies to identify and compensate geometric errors in 5-axis controlled machine tools. However, they may not be effective enough. It is caused by the motion error of the tilting axis. To solve this issue, we have developed a technology to identify 6-DoF error of the tilting axis using a datum sphere and a touch probe, and also developed a function to compensate the 6-DOF error of the axis. With these technologies, high motion accuracy has been achieved at various angles of two rotary axes.

An image observation system to evaluate the amount of wear of gear skiving tools has been developing. One of the problems with this system is that the slope adjacent of the tool affects the extraction accuracy of the tool contour shape. In this report, we describe the results of our study of a method to improve the contour extraction accuracy by installing a blue or other colored reflector, illuminating the adjacent slope with diffuse reflected light, and taking images of the bottom of the tool edge illuminated with white light, and applying RGB color decomposition.

In this study, we focus on the power consumption of the feed drive system of a machine tool and generate a tool path considering the energy consumption. We proposed the method to obtain tool position coordinates by a machining simulation on the 3D-CAD, and developed an energy-saving tool path generation system by path search method based on the power consumption of each axis as a cost index. The power consumption during tool path motion is estimated from a mathematical model of the feed drive system as the results, the energy-saving effect of the proposed method is verified.

This study examined the effect of nominal diameter on the machining of female threads using a TiSiN-based coated thread mill by changing the orbital radius of the helical interpolation motion. The work material was S50C and the nominal diameters of the threads were M10 and M12. The cutting conditions were varied in terms of rotation speed and feed rate. A wireless holder capable of simultaneously measuring tool vibration and cutting temperature and a 3-component piezoelectric cutting power meter were used as measuring instruments, and the machining characteristics were analyzed.

In order to further improve finishing efficiency and precision, we propose a dual-pole composite magnetic field magnetic abrasive finishing process. This process places a magnetic pole above and below the workpiece, and the magnetic field above or below can be changed by changing the current supplied to the coil. When the magnetic field is periodically changed, the magnetic cluster will periodically fluctuate accordingly, so that the magnetic cluster can be periodically restored to its original state. In addition, when finishing complex surfaces, by adjusting the distance between the upper magnetic pole and the lower magnetic pole from the workpiece, the problem of reduced finishing force when the distance between the surface and the magnetic pole varies can be reduced. In this study, the magnetic field distribution in the finishing area was measured, and the influence of different magnetic fields on finishing characteristics was studied. As a result, the finishing area of this process obtained a relatively uniform magnetic field. In addition, higher finishing efficiency is achieved when alternating magnetic fields are used on the upper and lower magnetic poles.
