The main results can be summarized as follows: 1) When two light stimuli, spatially separated, were presented in succession, the estimation of the apparent distance between them underwent some kind of change. 2) When the spatial distance between successive stimuli was short, underestimation of distance appeared immedialely following the removal of the first stimulus. As time passed the amount of underestimation decreased and overestimation occured. Following the reaching of a maximum point, the amount of overestimation decreased, finally returning to the zero point. 3) When the spatial distance between successive stimuli was large, underestimation appeared at first, decreasing slowly with time until the zero point was reached. 4) As the exposure time of the first stimulus increased, a gradual transition from Tau-effect to Kohler-effect occured. The finding indicated that both effects were nothing more than different phases of the same process. Since this is the case it is neither
