Kampo medicines are easier to take and easier to carry when they are formed into tablets, but tabletization also lengthens the dissolution time. Improvement of dissolvability is critically important because poor dissolvability can require a rethinking of the medicine preparation process. So far, however, only factors relating to direct compression have been studied; the fabrication process as a whole has not been considered. Optimization ofthe fabrication conditions therefore holds the possibility of improving dissolvability. The purpose of the study described in this paper was to find compressive forming conditions for the preparation process that would improve dissolvability without changing the present method. The optimum conditions found improved the variance by a factor of more than two.
