Abstract
Laser hardening is a heat treatment technique where in steel surface is being hardened due to the self cooling effect which results from the heat conduction of steel plate by just irradiating a laser beam to the steel plate. Laser hardening depends on the self-cooling capacity of the material that the processing surface often melts or deteriorates according to the irradiation condition of the laser. Thus, there are still many unclear points in the conditions of the laser beam processing. This report aims to obtain the most suitable CO2 laser hardening condition by performing the parameter design. The following points are particularly discussed in this report : (1)The laser irradiation condition where stable hardening processing facies could obtain among various steel materials. (2)The validity of a iron oxide absorbent and Plain-multi-beam lens for the CO2 laser hardening. (3) The minimum thickness of the steel plate that can be use in laser hardening. (4) The maximum processing velocity corresponding to the laser power output.
