The inspection of circular fluorescent lamps coming out of the final production line has been performed by Visual inspection. However, such inspection is lacking clear judging standards, giving inconsistent results. The difficulties to improve quality and productivity include thef following problems:
1. A large number of items to be inspected.
2. The effectiveness of individual inspecting items.
3. Being unable to compare with the products of competitors.
These problems cannot be solved by simply substituting the existing visual inspecting method by automation. The selection of inspecting items must be made based on its validity and effectiveness. Also a scale must be used for companson. In order to effectively rationalize the inspection process, an image treatment devise was developed. At the same time, MTS was applied to summarize multiple inspecting items into one scale. As a result, the measuring items were successfully evaluated so that one third of the existing items were eliminated. The new inspecting method was proven to be better through experimentation.
