Abstract
The use of the conventional microtome designed for whole body autoradiography has been limited to ultra-thin sections of experimental animals weighing up to about 1.0 kg, and high skill has been required. After examining the space the instrument occupies, size of the knife which is available, size of X-ray films and so forth, the maximum slice size was determined to be 200 mm×400 mm, and thus the new-type of microtome can treat all animals weighing from 20 g to 5 kg. On the other hand, various kinds of tapes on the market were utilized for preparing the sections on the basis of the investigators' preferences, but there was provided the exclusive section mounting tape designed for whole body autoradiography possessing strong adhesiveness at a low temperature (-10°to -25°) .
Consequently, ultra-thin sections such as 40-60μ of full-length frozen animals can be easily obtained by employing both the microtome and the tape.
